UoC Active supports the wellbeing of our students, staff and community through providing a range of gym facilities, exercise classes, sports events, activities and community partnerships.

Frequently asked questions

I don't have a membership. How do I register?

Q: I don’t have a pre-enrolled account as the question above says… What do I need to do first?

A: Don’t worry, this is just because your data didn’t trigger the automation criteria (likely due to not being student on a campus with an on-site gym. Simply go to the GoJoin link on this page and follow the steps. Once you register an account, you will receive an email, prompting you to reset your password. Complete this step and then you will be able to access your account online to make purchases and book activities.

Do I already have a membership?

Q: When trying to access GoJoin, it says I have an existing membership (I haven’t previously signed up), what does this mean/what do I do?
A: This is because UoC Students/Staff are automatically enrolled with a PAYG account, to allow facilities/services access. To continue setting up your account, you just need to follow the ‘Forgot Password’ link and complete the steps. You can then log in and purchase a membership subscription (or access continue as PAYG), and access GoBook to use the sports facilities.

Can I use the partner sites of a different campus?

Q: As a premium member of Carlisle or Lancaster, can I still access the partner facilities of the other site?

A: Yes. For example, Active Premium members who joined Carlisle Sports Centre, can still access Salt Ayre, even though it isn’t the default partner. Likewise, those who join Lancaster on a premium subscription, can also access Better Leisure (in Cumbria). You just need to contact your local UoC Active centre to be walked through the necessary steps.

As a distance/online student, where do I join?

Q: I’m not based at Carlisle, Ambleside, or Lancaster, but I’d like to access facilities via BUCS Universal… Where do I join to do this?

A: On GoJoin, create an account via Carlisle or Lancaster and purchase an Active+ subscription. Then get in touch with the location you joined and one of our sports centre teams will walk you through the BUCS registration and verification process.

Do I need to buy a subscription to access facilities?

Q: If I don’t have an Active+ or Active Premium membership subscription, do I need to buy one to use the facilities?

A: No, you can still use facilities on a PAYG basis on our standard Active membership (default level for accounts who have not purchased an upgrade subscription.
